PrimusLabs Begins Offering Mycotoxins Testing
The PrimusLabs Pesticide Residue laboratory is pleased to announce that it has extended the scope of its ISO 17025 accreditation to include mycotoxin testing of food. Mycotoxins are naturally occurring toxic chemicals that are produced by certain molds (fungi). They are most often found in nuts, cereals, spices, dried fruits, apples and coffee beans and often occur in warm and humid conditions. The adverse health effects of mycotoxins range from acute poisoning to long-term effects such as immune deficiency and cancer, and even death.
PrimusLabs’ current analytical method most commonly analyzes for Aflatoxin (Aflatoxin B1, Aflatoxin B2, Aflatoxin G1, and Aflatoxin G2) as well as Ochratoxin A. Aflatoxins are amongst the most poisonous mycotoxins and are produced by molds (Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus). Ochratoxin A is produced by several species of Aspergillus and Penicillium, is formed during the storage of crops, and is known to cause a number of toxic effects in animal species.
